A new study published in the Journal of Clinical Nutrition finds that consuming fried potatoes in the form of french fries, hash browns, potato chips, and so on is associated with earlier death. Researchers followed 4000 participants for 8 y and found that those who ate fried potatoes 2 or 3 times a week were twice as likely to die early compared with participants who ate fewer servings, according to CNN. It's unclear what it was about fried potatoes specifically that may lead to an earlier death, but experts speculated that anything between the fats, starches, salt, and acrylamide produced by excess browning may all play a role.
