Drug marketers need to police themselves with a code of ethics on off-label marketing of their products because it continues to be essentially unregulated, former US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner Robert Califf, MD, told an industry audience.
Why this matters
The actions of unscrupulous industry marketers can paint the industry in a negative light and potentially harm patients without a clear set of rules, said Dr. Califf, a cardiologist who headed the agency from February 2016 to January 2017.
