Internists Suggest Ways to Make ‘Meaningful Use’ More Effective

The American College of Physicians (ACP) this week urged the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to modify the current meaningful use requirements.  ACP filed extensive comments on the meaningful use makeover in a 12-page letter to CMS from Dr. Peter Basch, chair of ACP’s Medical Informatics Committee.

Meaningful use is getting another look now because CMS has taken an unusual step. The agency has asked for a second round of comments regarding Stage 3 of the meaningful use requirements because the previous round of comments became outdated once the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) was enacted.
