A proposed new healthcare plan would emphasize health savings accounts (HSAs), cut Medicaid funding, and eliminate the individual mandate. For healthy patients with a good income, this new plan may work for them. However, it may lead to consequences for low-income patients or those with chronic diseases.

We've previously reported on the role of the individual mandate to keep health insurance rates low. Reducing Medicaid may result in states becoming unable to provide financial assistance to low-income patients who are just above the poverty line.
